The Lord Lieutenant for the Inverness Lieutenancy is James Wotherspoon. Mr Wotherspoon was educated in Inverness and Edinburgh. He later attended Aberdeen University where he studied law. After graduation, he became a legal apprentice in Edinburgh. Mr Wotherspoon is currently Partner of Wright, Johnston & McKenzie a legal firm based in Inverness.
Mr Wotherspoon was Clerk to the Inverness Lieutenancy from 2002-2021 and a Deputy Lieutenant since 2009. He has assisted with Lieutenancy matters during that time, including involvement with the various Royal Households.
The Inverness Lieutenancy covers a large area including the city of Inverness and its environs, Fort William and Lochaber including the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna.
